| Full description: |
This property is the newly renovated section of what was formerly an Andalusian finca. It now forms the central but totally independent part of a terrace of three houses in quiet countryside near the village of Alcaucin. It nestles at the head of a valley below the Tejeda/Almijara Mountains, close to the Malaga/Granada border in the Axarquia area overlooking the Mediterranean. It is cool in summer, benefiting from the sea breeze, and cosy in winter with its gas central heating and double-glazing. There are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with a double; bathroom, with full bath/shower; dining room; kitchen with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas cooker/oven; a sitting room and a utility room with washing machine. The south-facing bedroom has a balcony with views over the olive groves and in the distance one glimpses the Mediterranean. The north-facing bedroom has access to the roof terrace, which has a stunning view of the Zafarraya Pass. Outside there is parking to the front, under the vine; a private patio area to the rear, with a covered sitting area; an ample sunbathing terrace adjoining the swimming pool (exclusive use) (3m x 3m) and a small garden area. Linen and towels are provided. Gas and electricity are included, though winter rents will be required to pay for gas.
Location: 30 minutes from the coast (Torre Del Mar) and 45 minutes from Nerja, 60 minutes from Malaga airport and 60 minutes from Granada. Skiing at Sierra Nevada 90 minutes. Two delightful municipal swimming pools at 10 minutes' drive away. The nearest golf courses are Baviera (25 mins.) and Añoreta (35 mins.) The setting is rural, surrounded by olive and almond trees, with open access for walking in the surrounding hills and mountains. Within ten minutes’ drive are local shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The nearest town is Velez Malaga, which has a large shopping centre and a water park. The area abounds with traditional Moorish “white” villages.
An ideal situation for enjoying nature, trekking, photography, bird watching, flora, fauna etc. and from which to explore Andalucia or simply to chill out or both!

ANDALUCIA offers a wide variety of holiday possibilities, from skiing in the sierras to basking on the beaches. Vast areas are still unspoilt and many inland areas have been preserved as Parques Naturales or as Parques Nacionales such as DOÑA ANA. The cities of SEVILLA, CORDOBA and GRANADA are rich in history, as are the numerous Moorish mountain villages, "pueblos blancos" of which ALCAUCIN (10 minutes away) is a fine example. Granada is only an hour’s drive away, while Sevilla and Cordoba are within a couple of hours.
MALAGA PROVINCE
MALAGA capital (60 mins) is a thriving commercial centre offering all you would expect of a large provincial capital. Most renowned are its port (visited by cruise ships); its cathedral (nicknamed La Manquita because of its missing tower); Moorish castles (El Gibralfaro y La
Alcazaba), Roman theatre and botanical garden. Nearby are attractions such as Seaworld, a safari park, a crocodile park, a zoo, water parks and theme parks..
RONDA, surrounded by spectacular scenery, is one of the most popular inland locations for visitors, with its impressive deep gorge, historic buildings and the oldest bullring in Spain (1785).
ANTEQUERA (only an hour from Los Pavitos) is also becoming a popular destination for day-trippers. It offers numerous churches, museums, a castle and prehistoric burial chambers.
Nearby (8 miles) is EL TORCAL: 2,965 acres of impressive limestone formations shaped by the elements, with marked walks and a visitors' centre.
Also nearby (14 miles) is LA LAGUNA DE FUENTE DE PIEDRA, a salt lake, home to up to 15,000 breeding flamingos.
LA AXARQUIA
THE AXARQUÍA REGION, east of Málaga, is an area unspoilt by mass tourism. Dependent on agriculture, mainly olives almonds, avocados and other sub-tropical fruits, it enjoys the best climate in Europe. This is an ideal area in which to explore the white villages of Andalucía , its rugged mountains, varied flora and fauna, and its national monuments. Local ferias throughout the summer offer the chance to experience the true local culture at first hand.
VELEZ MALAGA (20 mins.) is a Moorish town complete with castle and steep, narrow streets. It also boasts a new shopping and leisure centre, multi screen cinemas etc. and a water park. Yes, this is a region of contrasts!
TORRE DEL MAR (25 mins.) is the nearest beach and very popular with the Spanish, while NERJA, (famous for its caves and fine sandy beaches) is the favourite of many English.
IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE HOUSE is the "Parque Natural de la Sierra de Tejeda y Almijara" (15 minutes' drive) and endless tracks and footpaths with open access to the hills and mountains right on the doorstep. The impressive Boquete de Zafarraya pass gives access to Granada Province, and is the starting point of an excellent walk with magnificent views along the old railway track that ran from Ventas de Zafarraya to Velez Malaga. Lake La vinuela is fast becoming a focal point for those interested in fishing, water sports, bird watching or simply walking.
