The rental is near the Rambla, a busy treelined pedestrian street busy with street musicians, performers and selling everythings from tourist trinkets to the latest in plastic fashions! Visit the bird market near the arts and information center at Palau de la Virreina. Near to is the ever busy Mercat de la Boqeria - a colorful market well worth a visit. Not far the Ramblas meets the sea with the Monument to Colombus. In this port area is the Maritime Museum (Museu Maritim) - full of a wealth of history relating to Spanish adventurers and global exploration.
Taking a walk in the opposite direction to the Ramblas, one finds oneself in medieval Barcelona - the Barri Gotic - a concentration of gothic buildings, connected by narrow streets, squares, with many restaurants, bars, cafés, which has as its center the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, and close to it the Placa de Sant Jaume - with busy market - and a venue for sardana dancing.
Other places that must be visited, (amongst so many) are the Picasso Museum on the Carrer de Montcada - with a fine selection of his earlier years including the blue period. The Joan Miro museum and art gallery with the largest collection by this great Catalan artist. And to crown all - visit the La Sagrada Familia - the fantastic almost finished cathedral by Antoni Gaudi.
