| Brief description: |
Casa Felipe is situated in one of the sunniest resorts of the idyllic island. It is ideal for all year sunny holidays and offers spacious, high quality family accommodation with full self-catering facilities close to the beach and restaurants and shops |
| Full description: |
Casa Felipe is a large three/four bedroomed house with spacious lounge and luxuriously fitted kitchen. This accommodation will comfortably sleep a large family or a group of friends (up to 5 people). Two bedrooms open out onto the balcony with stunning, uninterrupted views of the sea and mountains. It is situated in the Laguna area of the quiet old fishing village of Playa de Santiago, the only south-facing town on this small island. This gives it the best swimming and diving opportunities, as well as fantastic walking.
The house is situated in a small street, close to all the village amenities, the beaches and the Club Laurel pool and restaurant. It is fortunate to be on one of the easier access roads (some areas are a challenging climb) and fronts onto the banana plantation.
One of a group of four properties, it is beautifully furnished and is light, spacious, modern and luxuriously fitted throughout.
The ground floor has a large, open, combined lounge, dining and kitchen area, together with a cloakroom and auxiliary room to the rear. There is also a television, home cinema system (DVD) and hifi.
The kitchen is newly installed with a stunning stone worktop. It is fully fitted with oven, ceramic hob, and a large fridge/freezer. There are ample cupboards full of all the items you may need. The washing machine is located in the auxiliary room, with drying space here or on the balcony.
Upstairs there are three spacious bedrooms, two of which open onto the balcony. The double-room has a large wardrobe with drawers, the twin-room has a combined wardrobe and chest of drawers and the single room has a chest of drawers.
The bathroom is fitted with a full-sized bath (rare in the Canaries) with shower, and is finished throughout in top quality tiles on floors and walls.
The balcony faces southwest giving superb views across the baranco (dry riverbed, except during periods of excessive rainfall - very rare), where bananas grow, to the sea (only a couple of minutes stroll away) and up the valley to the Garjonay peak. The house has no other buildings in front, giving it a private, uninterrupted vista which can be enjoyed from the outdoor table and chairs. A delightful spot for meals, soaking up the sun, evening sunsets and stargazing. |
| Facilities: |
Complete in house facilities including washing machine, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, home cinema (DVD), TV, HiFi and wall-mounted fans in all bedrooms. |

Casa Felipe is in the Laguna area of Playa de Santiago, on the south coast of La Gomera. It is only 40 minutes by car from San Sebastian, or 15 minutes by sea-cat (Garajonay Express). Santiago has a small airport, only a couple of minutes drive from the house.
To get to the island, you can fly to Tenerife South (www.britishairways.com gives excellent prices for scheduled flights, try also www.iberia.com) and transfer to Gomera by ferry, large fast-cat to San Sebastian, or by small sea-cat (Garajonay Express) that stops at the port of Playa de Santiago, just 10 minutes walk from the house. Alternatively, you can also fly to Tenerife North for a following flight (35mins) into Gomera airport. If arriving via Gomera airport, the house is only a few minutes taxi ride (cars can be hired from the airport and in the town). Flight times are 4hrs from London Gatwick to Tenerife South/North.
If arriving by sea via the port of Los Cristianos, Tenerife (25mins from Tenerife South airport) and San Sebastian, you can either hire a car, or take a taxi to Playa de Santiago (approx. 40 mins). The fast-cat crosses in 30mins, the ferry in 75mins. The former is fast and efficient and well worth the experience but the latter provides the opportunity to watch dolphins and other cetaceans and birds. However, the easiest option is to get the small sea-cat, the Garajonay Express, which stops at San Sebastian before continuing to Playa de Santiago and onward to Valle Gran Rey. The Garajonay Express also provides a cheap and convenient service for travelling between the three towns on the south coast.

activities: |
The beaches at Playa de Santiago, although a mixture of sand and pebble, are amongst the best on the island (other good beaches are at Valle Gran Rey and San Sebastian). There are also many other excellent beaches and bays around the entire coastline but these are more remote but can be walked to or reached by boat.
The harbour of Playa de Santiago provides protection from the open ocean and therefore allows for safe swimming, even for children. The beautifully clean and clear waters make snorkelling an unimaginable delight as tropical coloured fish swim right into the shallow waters.
There are diving opportunities for beginners and the experienced, with classes held by Gomera Dive Resort at the Club Laurel restaurant and pool, and within the bay. The Club Laurel restaurant and pool is part of the Hotel Tecina. Access to the picturesque salt-water pool, and the other extensive and luxurious hotel amenities, is available on request at the Hotel Tecina reception and on payment of a small fee, subject to availability. Tennis and golf are also available through the Hotel Tecina.
Boat trips provide the opportunity to see the most stunning scenery and geology of the island, chances to see the dolphins and other cetaceans, and day-trips of swimming and tuna fishing. Boats can be hired for your own fishing trips.
A new cultural centre, La Rosetta, converted from an old tomato canning factory and situated in the hills above the airport, has a stunning vista over the sea and provides a varied program of concerts, exhibitions, classes and musical entertainment. Local posters will show what is currently on.
The island has the most fantastic walks for enthusiastic walkers. There are walks suitable for all levels of ability, some directly from the door of the house, and many, many more from other origins on the island. There are excellent walking guides and information.
Enthusiastic mountain-bikers will find Gomera the most perfect location. After every challenging climb, there is a spot to stop as you gasp at the stunning views of the island, and then cool down as you freewheel your way through tiny villages and on to the next challenge. Local bike hire companies also offer the facility of taking you to the highest points and letting you cycle your way back to base!
Astronomers can gaze at the crystal clear night skies, with the stars looking so close and defined that even non-astronomers become avid stargazers. Meteors and meteor showers are often visible.
